Game Design Project. Assigned 11/6, due 11/7 - MAJOR

 Having researched famous Video Game Designers you will choose a favorite and create a character, a world, or a game itself, that reflects the aspects of their style prevalent in their work. With your knowledge of Video Game Design Careers and Video Games you will reference your Designer's style to plan and create a design inspired by them. For example, if your favorite Game Designer was Shigero Miyomoto you will create a character or game inspired by their work.

You have TWO FULL class days for this project. Budget your time well and make sure you complete all THREE parts in the time allocated.

Part 1 - My Designer's Work - Finish day 1 (suggested)

  1. Choose your favorite Game Designer from the ones you researched for the purpose of this project. You will create a character or game world in their style, so consider that when choosing one. Find at least 3 examples of your Designer's work (it can be a character or description/image of a game they worked on)and include under a heading of their name in a new Google Site subpage called Game Designer Inspired Creation Planning. Make a screenshot of those 3 examples and share them with me as images.
  2. Analyze the 3 pieces of work and describe the following aspects of the pieces, in terms of what they have in common and how they differ on that subpage:
    1. What do these characters/games have in common in relation to their colors?
    2. What other elements do the images from their work have in common?
    3. What does the text in these pieces have in common?
    4. What are the overall differences you see between the pieces. Describe one element of each piece that is unique and not repeated in any of the other examples.
    5. Describe the purpose of each of the pieces you shared. What have they been created for? Is there a common theme between the creations' purposes or are they for different purposes?
    6. What other themes that you didn't already mention do you see repeated throughout all or most of the pieces?
    7. How would you describe the style of the Designer's work?
    8. Search online and provide at least 2 descriptions of the Designer's work and it's style by other people. Provide the URL where you found this information and the person/organization who provided this description.
    9. You will create a character or game outline in the style of this Designer for part 3, explain in 2-3 sentences how you would incorporate these styles into your work.

Part 2 - Planning my Creation - Finish day 1 (suggested)

Using the answers to your questions from part 1, plan a character or game world in the style of the Game Designer you selected. You will be able to choose the medium in which you work, my suggestions include the following:

  • Drawn or painted by hand;
  • Using any paint or other graphic design software you have access to including Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Canva (online), Gimp, etc.
  • A multimedia collage;
  • Any other medium of your choice.
On your Google Site subpage called Game Designer Inspired Creation Planning, in a new text box, please answer the following questions.
  1. If your Designer were to create a piece of work similar to something that would be made by someone in the career you researched, what do you think they would they create?
  2. What is your preferred medium to create a design like this?
  3. Write 3 or 4 sentences about how you plan to incorporate aspects of the designers style and show that your work is inspired by them in your piece.

Part 3 - My Creation - Finish day 2 (suggested)

  1. Create/Make your design in your chosen medium making sure you incorporate everything that you planned.
  2. Please make a new subpage on your Google Site and title it Game Design Project. Once you have finished your creation, make sure you find a way to make it into an Image. This might require you to take a screen shot, use your cell phone to take a photo, or save the image as either a .png, or .jpg. If you need help with this step, please let me know, I am happy to help if I can. Put your creation on your Google Site page.
  3. Now, on the same page reflect on your design, answer the following questions in the same assignment in which you completed Parts 1 and 2:
    1. What aspects of your design turned out well? Explain your answer.
    2. What aspects of your design didn't turn out as well you hoped? Explain your answer.
    3. Do you think your design appears to be in the style of your chosen designer? Why/why not?
    4. What would you change about your design if you were to do it over?
    5. On a scale of 1-10 how much did you enjoy this project? Explain your answer and what you would recommend the teacher do to make the project better for future students
