For the Fashion Design project you are going to have a few options on what to create, but either way you choose, you will need to make sure you can share it digitally. You will need to make THREE pieces for this project.
I must have a unique LOGO on at least one of the pieces you design today. If you can bring that same logo, and/or color package to the other pieces that would also be great. Feel free to come up with a cohesive package if you want.
We are going to focus in on the FOUR basic elements of fashion design:
Color - Color is very important in fashion design, and there are many different color schemes that work well.
Silhouette - In other types of design, shape and form are considered elements; in fashion design, shape and form amount to the silhouette of a garment or fashion accessory.
Line - There are many instances of lines in fashion design.
Texture - Fabric or other materials, such as trims and findings for clothing and accessories, can have a variety of textures, all of which can affect the look of a garment or fashion accessory.
OPTION 1
For this assignment, the easiest to focus on using color. So your first option is to use color on a template for an article of clothing or accessory.
1. First you need a template. You can use the ones I have shared here:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/10p488-66arhOyAgGwA5exH05CD2tXBQE?usp=sharing
You can simply make a copy of one of these files into your own drive. Or you can download them to your computer and then upload them to sketchpad or whatever program you plan to use.
Or you can find your own by doing a google search. There are lots of things out there. When I did a search for these I typed as an example "pants clip art" or "shirt clip art" and I found lots of options.
Eventually you need an image that you can upload.
You can use the following website to color these designs:
2. Once you open Sketchpad, Click on the Face on the upper left side - if you hover over it, it will say Clipart. This will open up a dialog box. At the top, click "Load your Own Image." Now direct it to the clip art you want to alter.
3. Once it opens, you can grab any corner and make it larger.
4. Now select the pencil tool. It, too, will open a dialog box, where you have all kinds of options, like brushes, colors, blending, etc. Select what you want to use and go crazy...okay well not crazy, but the goal here is to use color to create your own original design. For those of you who are into details, you can zoom in and out to get really close to your clip art. I am not going to grade these super hard, but I would prefer that you try a little bit to make these neat and presentable. 70% of the grade is turning something in, the rest is left to me and my feelings about your efforts, the color pallets you use, and your final designs.
Once you finish your design, here is how you save it out of Sketchpad.
At the bottom left of Sketchpad, there are some other buttons, find the Export button.
5. Choose Download as a .PNG. It will save it to your download folder.
6. From there, you will need to put the .png file into your drive, SHARE IT PROPERLY, and put it on your Google Site.
OPTION 2
Some of you may want to do this by hand on paper. That would be awesome, so option 2 is printing any template you want, and coloring it by hand.
If you want to do this option, please come back to my desk and line up when I tell you I am ready to print. When you get here, you will tell me which THREE items you want me to print. I will print them for you and you will be able to get started on them immediately.
Once you finish that, take a photo with your phone, get the image to your drive and post it on your Google Site.
OPTION 3
If you want to tackle the other 3 basic elements of Fashion Design, that would be great. You could do the following:
a.) Draw your own template piece on Sketchpad and then color it. Follow the directions in Option 1, except don't download the template.
b.) Draw your own clothing piece and color it, take a photo, and put it on your Google Site.
c.) I would also be open to other options. Some of you may sew or want to tackle creating your own piece of clothing. You don't have a lot of time, but I would be open to an image of something that you handmade.
