When you are done with this reflection, please work on the infographic assignment below. I will call you up eventually.

What is an Infographic?

Infographics are just what the name implies: graphics that display information. There are lots of creative ways to do this. The better you are at designing infographics, the more likely people will engage with your story. You are creating a new "entry point" that enhances your overall design package.

There are lots of types of Infographics. Click the website linked below for more information:

Types of Infographics

On your Google Site, make a new subpage called Infographics Preview and answer the following questions:

1. List the 8 suggested types of Infographics from the website.

2. Which type of Infographic might you use for the following things. Please be specific and use the types from the website. Make sure you explain why you think that would be the best method:

a. You want to show someone how to change a tire

b. You want to show the results of a poll where you asked students where they access daily news and you gave them a set of 10 choices

c. You want to show the concentration of voters across the United States and who they chose for the most recent presidential election

d. When you want to guide a group of students into the best job for them in a specific industry

e. You want to show a series of statistics based on age and income growth across time

3. Look at each graphic presented on the website. Each graphic shares some similar elements, what are those things? These are SHARED things that every single graphic had, so do not compare the eight types. What are the things you see in every graphic you looked at?

4. What do you think Infographics add to a newspaper page or spread?

5. What do you think would cause a newspaper editor to decide to use an infographic instead of a photograph or more text?

Now let's make an infographic using a web-based  resource:

Directions: To help you get used to creating Infographics, we are going to use an online service that helps you generate cool looking Infographics.

Step 1: Go to http://infogr.am/ to sign-up for an account. You should be able to sign-in using your AISD issued gmail account.

Once you get logged into the site, click on the Infographics option at the top. This will open up a long list of options for you to use to create your Infographic. Don't pick one yet, you need the data first. Always let the data drive your choices. Content drives design, data drives infographic selections.

Step 2: Go to any of the following to find some interesting statistics that you could chart in an Infographic:

Step 3: Select the best type of infographic that will best illustrate the data you have selected. Start using the infogram options to fill in the appropriate data in the places it needs to go. If you would prefer to do an infographic without using specific data, like a "how-to" or a "timeline" or some sort of "flowchart" you can certainly do that, but you would need to source that information from a specific website, so you will have to do your own research.

Step 4: Make sure you have added a headline and all the appropriate labels for your infographic. You should try to find a way to add the SOURCE of your data to the infographic, but not all of the template options allow for this. Please understand that in the real world, you must include WHERE you got your data from. It is crucial that your readers know the source of all data so they can do their own, independent research if they wish.

Step 5: Once you finish your graphic, post your info graphic to your Google Site by taking a screen shot of your graphic and posting it. If you need support with this, please let me know. I haven't asked students to do this before, so I am not sure the best route to make sure I can see your creation. You may have to use an Embed Code.

Food Truck Digital Project. Assigned 4/11, due 4/15 - MAJOR

Last time we worked on the Food Truck project, you used Canva to come up with some plans and answered a bunch of question about what goes into a Food Truck, the history of them, and what you might expect to see if you worked in a food truck. You designed a logo, and you created some sort of design for the side of your truck.

Today, we are going to put all of that together in to a final package. You will again use Canva to complete this task. Remember this is the first time I am assigning this project to students, so I am going to be flexible for this in terms of grading but I am hoping you can get your project to look like the samples below.

Here is what I expect to see on your final project:

1. A well designed and thought out logo with a graphic and text (the truck's name). I would like 2 versions of this logo, one that has the full logo with the name of the truck, and another that is just text-based.

1. A menu with a minimum of the following:

    5 main dishes

    5 side dishes

    3 desserts

3. Two sides of your Food Truck. Your truck could have some sort of roof mounted symbol

1 side with the serving area

1 side with the non-serving side

Below are some samples for you to look at so you know what I am looking for. Ignore the numbers at the bottom, those are irrelevant. Do not include those on your piece.

You have all of today and most of next class to complete this task. You will turn this in on your Google Site on a new Subpage called Food Truck Project. Make sure to PUBLISH when you are done.

The next part of this assignment is to make a cardboard food truck in class. There are two sample trucks on the table in the middle of the classroom. Sometime today, go look at one closer. You will be able to work alone, or in a team of two to make these.

YOU MUST BRING YOUR OWN CARDBOARD BOX

I have a lot of cardboard BUT you will need to cut it and that can be tedious. You may want to find your own cardboard to do this assignment. In addition, you may want to add things to your truck that I do not have. You will need to provide those things.

PLEASE BRING ANYTHING YOU WANT FROM HOME TO HELP CREATE YOUR TRUCK.

I will have:

Glue

Scissors

Markers

Tape

Construction paper

SOME poster board (white only)

I will also be able to cut down a cardboard box for you using a box cutter. You will need cut carefully mark your box for the cuts you want.

This Food Truck MUST BE 3D.

Please ask if you have any questions about this second project

Part of this assignment will include coming up with design for the outside of your truck. There are TONS of things you have to think about when it comes to designing your truck, and the following website has a ton of them. I don't expect you to memorize all of these, but steal some ideas that you might want to bring into your truck:

https://pos.toasttab.com/blog/on-the-line/food-truck-design-ideas

12. There are three distinct areas that the website suggests that you focus on, what are those three areas? (these are near the top of the article)

13. List the three design ideas (out of 20) that caught your attention and explain how you might carry out that idea in your food truck.

Finally, you will need to come up with a logo for your truck. There are so many options out there, but this site has a ton of them for you to think about:

https://99designs.com/inspiration/logos/food-truck

14. Pick out your favorite four logos, take screen shots and share them here.

15. Describe why you picked those four logos. Use graphic design terms to explain what caught your attention. Was it color, shape, texture, graphics, what? Explain fully what you liked about these logos (2 sentences minimum).

Now lets have some fun thinking about what your truck might look like digitally.

Download this file, open it in Canvas, and come up with a beginning look for your truck. You will each come up with your own concept and ideas and this first part is the digital part of the project. You will have one class period to complete the next assignment which you will see more of tomorrow.

You can use these files, or you can use the elements button in Canva and search for Food Truck. Please make sure you get a blank version.

Add color, think about a logo, colors, name, menu, menu items, etc.

You will use Canva to create a mood board for the room of your choice, considering color, light and texture.  You will choose a design style for the room, either your favorite or another you learned about in one of the previous Interior Design assignments or elsewhere. You will have two more assignment in the Interior Design module after this, one will be a reflection on this project and the other a daily assignment considering room layout. You have two class periods to complete this project. On Tuesday next week, you will do the reflection and the last interior design assignment.

  1. Login to Canva, in What will you Design, search for Mood Board and select one you feel will work well with the style and/or color palette of the room you plan to decorate.
  2. Title your Mood Board 'Your name's Design Style Room Name' e.g. Diego's Mid Century Modern Living Room or Claire's Modern Farmhouse Bedroom.
  3. Select a color palette for your room using what you learned in the preview assignment. Include up to FIVE colors that work well together, including a primary neutral color. You can find a swatch for the color palette online or use one that is pre-loaded in Canva.
  4. Make the background of you mood board the color that you would paint the majority of the walls in the room (a low key neutral color works best!). If your template is already that color, you may keep it as is.
  5. If you wish you may include a painted accent wall or feature wallpaper, include a paint chip or wallpaper sample that reflects that.
  6. Include something on your mood board to show the entire color palette you will draw from for your room. It could be the paint palette itself or an decorative object or piece of furniture, label this paint palette.
  7. Search online for pieces in the design style you have chosen with colors as near as possible to the color palette you have chosen for your room, include images of at least the following pieces of furniture and large decor items dependent on which room you choose to create the mood board for.
    • Living room - Sofa, accent chair, rug, coffee table and/or accent table(s).
    • Bedroom - Bed, end table(s), chest of drawers, dresser, rug.
    • Dining room - Dining table, chairs or benches, accent chair(s), rug, storage item such as a buffet or a bar,

Include items appropriate for your room choice such as art work, throw pillows, clock, blankets, bedding, curtains, baskets, foot stools, storage bench, ottoman, plant, laundry basket.
  9. Within these items or in addition to, include at least TWO pieces of furniture or decor with varied and interesting texture. Label those items to indicate that they are the ones which bring texture in to the room.
  10. Include at least two light fixtures that coordinate with your furniture and decor items that would work in your space.
  11. For each of your items, use the background remover tool in Canva to get rid of the background so that only the item itself is visible. This way you can see if it works with your wall color or note.
  12. Resize items to scale relative to each other once you have selected everything so you can get a better idea of how everything would work together.
  13. Move the items around so that they are clearly displayed on the mood board and it is easy to view all items.
  14. When you are done save your file as a .PNG and post it on your Google Site, on a new subpage called Interior Design Project.
